The Handover
Photo of the Week 16/52
A dash of the clandestine today, a secret meeting, if you will.
We’re back at the Barbican this week, but at night. Along most of the walkways where the ledge overhangs, there is a strip of lights that illuminate the ground and make for some fantastic contrast in situations such as this.
Compositionally, I think this shot works well, the lower half of the duo in light, tells us a little bit about who they are, but with all identifying features hidden from view, it’s left to us to use ze little grey cells and whip up a story.
For me, lefty must be the new guy. White shoes, a timid attitude and looking a little out of their depth while righty is the one wearing the long coat and leading the discussion. Some heavy boots and a full-on trench coat would be even bolder, but my imagination will do the job.
Their stance adds to the scene and betrays a professional relationship. They face forward, they’re up against the wall, and while close, they are clearly separate. Likely, they’ve been settled into conversation for a while, but they aren’t there for simple small talk, negotiating the terms of agreement perhaps.
There are even some items laying between them on the ledge which catch just enough light to be made out, yet indistinguishable enough to remain a mystery.
I’m clearly describing this whole scene akin to something straight out of a Bond or Mission Impossible film, which tickles me considering I’m the one who took the photo and alas, it’s probably not a MI6 or CIA handover… but I suppose that’s part of the fun, no?
Thank you for reading and I’ll see you next week!
